ASX Trading Product Codes

All financial products on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) have a unique designator, or ASX code. Occasionally, products are referred to as their ASX code over their full name. The ASX codes are as follows:
Fully Paid Ordinary Shares
A three letter ASX code.
Eg. ANZ
for ANZ Banking Group Limited
Preference Shares
A five letter ASX code where the fourth letter is a ‘P’, and the first three letters represent the company that the preference share belongs to.
Eg. ANZPA
for ANZ’s Preference Share
Instalment Receipts (Contributing Shares)
A five letter ASX code where the fourth letter is a ‘C’, and the first three letters represent the company that the instalment receipt is issued for.
Eg. TLSCB
for Telstra Corporation Limited’s T2 Share Offering (a few year’s ago now)
Warrants
A six letter ASX code where the fourth letter is mainly a ‘W’ but can also be an ‘E’ or an ‘I’, and the first three letters represent the company that the warrant is issued against.
Eg. CBAWMA
for a Commonwealth Bank Limited warrant issued by Macquarie Bank
Company Issued Options
Either a four or five letter ASX code where the fourth letter is a ‘O’, and the first three letters represent the company that issued the option and for which the option is for. If the company only has one company option on issue, it will be XYZO where XYZ is the ASX code of the company. If it has more than one, they will be designated as XYZOA, XYZOB and so forth.
Eg. CAGO
for Cape Range Limited’s Company Option
Options
A five letter ASX code where the first three letters represent the company that the option is issued against. The fourth letter can be anything except will not be P, O, or C.
Eg. WOWDM
for Woolworths Limited Option
Indices
A three letter ASX code where the first letter is an ‘X’
Eg. XNJ
for S&P/ASX 200 – Industrials
